Chapter History

Lambda Gamma (Connecticut) was established in Fall 2002 by the following sisters:

Diana Mendoza (Beta Alpha)
Jennifer Billings (Beta Alpha)
Luanda E. Cavaco (Beta Alpha)
Aida Sanchez-Alicea (Beta Alpha)
Charlene Perez (Beta Alpha)
Patrice Howell (Beta Alpha)
Mary Austria (Beta Alpha)

In its first year, Lambda Gamma participated in the Buckland Hills Mall (Manchester, CT) “Evening of Giving” Fundraiser. The chapter sisters assisted the New Britain, CT Police Department in putting together survival kits for victims of domestic violence. Lambda Gamma sisters also donated to “Operation Shoebox” for the San Juan Tutorial Program of Hartford, CT. This event was implemented by elementary school students who were to sponsor a gift box to a soldier serving overseas.

Chapter Events

In its second year, Lambda Gamma has steadily become more active. The chapter participated in the “Evening of Giving” for the second year. The sisters volunteered at the Breast Cancer Walk in Hartford, CT assisting event staff as needed. The Connecticut area hosted its traditional Lambda Thanksgiving, to which Lambda Gamma sisters donated food and other necessary items. Sisters have taken time to enjoy the sisterhood that we share while attending a Latino Comedy Show together and having a Holiday Dinner and Secret Santa gift exchange. Our largest event thus far has been the coordination of the Melanie Rosado Scholarship Bowl. The Bowl is in its third year of existence. All sisters in the Connecticut Area participated in making this event a success. This year the Bowl raised over $4,500; our highest achievement to date. Overall, Lambda Theta Alpha - CT Area has raised over $10,000 in three years to benefit deserving high school seniors from Bulkeley High School in Hartford, CT. Lambda Gamma currently has a Polo Shirt Fundraiser made especially for Alumnae sisters. You can visit our website for the Melanie Rosado Scholarship Bowl at www.mrsbowl.org.
